Job Title: Advisor/Distance Coordinator
Job Summary:

Professional advisor and distance coordinator dedicated to recruiting, orienting, and advising students in the Department of Engineering Technology. Representing Miami's Engineering Technology Department program at partner community colleges through student advising and transfer fairs.

Duties/Physical Demands:
  • Advise first semester distance students in the Engineering Technology majors at Miami University Regionals
  • Enrolls students in ENT100 advising course
  • Represent Miami’s ENT program at partner two-year colleges through student advising and transfer fairs, as well as planned ENT partner site visits (ideally, one visit per site, per year)
  • Maintain and document distance student interactions in admission and advising systems (Slate and SSC Navigate) in coordination with the Office of Admission and Office of Academic Advising
  • Assist distance-students with initial financial aid consortium agreements (required each semester of enrollment at Miami University)
  • Assist with the academic petition process for transfer credits and academic actions
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Regional Director of Transfer Pathways and Partnerships or Chair of the Engineering Technology Department
  • Work with a team of ENT faculty and staff and external distance partner site coordinators to support planning and coordination of the ENT’s distance learning program and its activities and ensures implementation of policies and practices for synchronous distance learning
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree must be earned by the start date
  • At least nine months of experience, post baccalaureate, in academic advising and/or related student development programs in a university or community college setting. Relevant experience gained during a graduate program may also apply
  • High level of organizational and self-starting skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds, both domestic and international
  • Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile for reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift 10-30 pounds
  • This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree preferred in student affairs, higher education, college student personnel, counseling, business, or related field
  • Understanding of transfer credits and articulation agreements
  • Experience with and understanding of higher education recruitment, distance learning and online student populations
  • Experience with customer relations, working with 2-year colleges and/or community-based organizations, and business/industry officials
  • Familiarity with advising tools such as DARS, transferology.com, EAB SSC-Campus, and SCT Banner
