Job Summary:

 

Performs moderately complex repair or construction of university facilities or property which require specialized training in the Electrical trade. Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing building electrical systems to include distribution panels, motor control centers, commercial grade motors, variable frequency drives, low voltage systems and electrical equipment. This is a 2nd shift position, Wednesday through Saturday, 3:30 pm to 1:30 am with reasonable flexibility.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete project.
Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job site.
Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in the electrical trade.
Assists crafts-persons from other trades as needed.
Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files.
Troubleshoots and repair building electrical distribution systems.
Maintain building lighting systems and electrical outlets
Installs new lighting and electrical circuits.
Troubleshoots and repair electrical equipment, motors, breakers and low voltage systems.
Troubleshoots and repairs building switchgear and motor control centers.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires nine months training beyond high school in the electrical trade and two years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Driver's license required

 

Desired Qualifications:

Two or more years of experience at Trade level as an electrician providing service/repairs in a campus service setting and/or relative to campus electrician services.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular skilled trade
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagrams

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Frequent standing and walking with some climbing and lifting of materials weighing 50 to 75 pounds. Frequent operation of equpiment. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable. Some element of personal risk and exposure to accidents.
