Associate Director of Opening Minds through Art (OMA)

Job Summary:

Ensure continued growth, sustainability and the highest quality of the Scripps OMA program.  

Scripps Gerontology Center specializes in research, education, and service that makes a positive difference in the lives of aging individuals, their families and communities, and meets the needs of aging societies. One of the primary programs operated by Scripps Gerontology Center is the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program. The OMA program is an intergenerational art program for people with dementia. The mission of OMA is to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art. Additional information about the OMA program may be found at


Assisting in the development and implementation of the OMA programs; developing partnerships between medical/allied health universities and nearby nursing homes; maintaining ongoing communication with all stakeholders; training new OMA facilitators; securing new grants and contracts and preparing reports to funders; teaching OMA-related gerontology courses at Miami University; supervising and monitoring OMA programs at several sites; supervising graduate and undergraduate students; and completing various other duties as assigned. The Associate Director of OMA collaborates with other Scripps OMA staff members to promote the Scripps OMA brand; replicate the program; represent OMA at local and national events; conduct research; and engage in strategic planning for program sustainability. A training period will be in place in order to develop capacity to meet all of the above responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree; knowledge of external funding and grant writing; effective team coordination abilities and the ability to manage multiple complex projects and deadlines; excellent written communication skills; experience communicating with diverse audiences. Candidates who are finalists for the position will be required to submit a writing sample.  Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s or Ph.D. in gerontology or related field; teaching experience; project management experience; familiarity with the OMA program; experience working in the field of aging, medicine, or health sciences; experience working in nursing homes, especially with people who live with dementia; experience in strategy development and forward thinking; and experience with Microsoft Office, Word Press, social media.
